NYC Justice Corps

I am on the NYC Justice Corps team because it gives me great joy to see lives turn around at the Turning Point [name of the Bronx Justice Corps site].

NYC Justice Corps graduates are ready and motivated for work.

Corps members receive the following services and training while ENROLLED in the NYC Justice Corps:

  • Job readiness training in preparation for internships and employment
  • Life skills and case management services
  • Opportunity to repair and reconnect to their community
  • Paid six-week internship
  • Assistance with job placement or enrollment in an educational opportunity
  • Support to ensure they stay employed and/or in school

  • Ongoing referral and placement services
  • Community supervision support
  • Post-placement support for program participants
  • Supervisor support services

Corps graduates have enrolled in local community colleges and been placed in a range of permanent jobs including:

  • Assistant to District Manager, Bronx Community Board #6
  • Painter’s Helper, B&F Painting Inc.
  • Video Production Assistant, Night Train Inc.
  • Assistant Property Manager Lead Painter, Mount Hope Housing Inc.

Wrap-around retention services are a win-win for employers and employees. Additionally, employers who hire individuals with criminal records may be eligible for a number of financial incentives, including:

  1. Work Opportunity Tax Credits provide employers who hire individuals convicted of a felony with a federal income tax credit for up to $2,400 per qualified new employee. To learn more, click here.
  2. Empire Zone and Zone Equivalent Area Tax Credits are applied against a business’s state tax liability. Employers may be eligible for $1,500-$3,000 for up to five consecutive years, beginning with the first tax year in which Empire Zone wages are paid. To learn more, click here.
  3. The Federal Bonding Program provides fidelity bonds of $5,000 to employers for six months insuring employers against employee dishonesty or theft. To learn more about the Federal Bonding Program, click here.
